Solution oriented coaching

Solution-focused coaching

Activating resources instead of over-analyzing problems. Solution-oriented coaching shifts attention from analyzing the past to exploring what already works. Rather than digging into the origins of a problem, it helps clients identify past successes and activate their strengths. This approach arose as a response to overly problem-centered methods that often led to long processes with limited results. It’s about moving forward, not getting stuck in what went wrong—highlighting action over explanation.

Finding the right balance

Still, a purely solution-focused approach may not always suffice. In some cases, understanding the problem in its full context is crucial—especially when personality dynamics are involved. Without this, there’s a risk of treating symptoms instead of causes. Sustainable coaching combines both solution- and problem-oriented methods as needed. In all cases, coaching should remain focused and time-limited, offering space for development, not dependency.
